HCSO: Person of Interest Arrested in Death Investigation

CARRYVILLE, Fla. - The Holmes County Sheriff's Office discovered the body of Bruce McCullough, Monday afternoon.

McCullough was reported missing last Wednesday.

Authorities said they are doing all they can to gather any information on the case.

"We're running down any leads, and names that come up, any witnesses that pop up that have any information," said Sheriff John Tate.

McCullough's body was found in the area near his Carryville home.

Law enforcement obtained search warrants for his house and vehicle as well as the home of a neighbor.

"We also collected some evidence at the scenes on the search warrants and stuff that are being analyzed by FDLE and we're waiting on result of those also," sad Sheriff Tate.

According to authorities, the neighbor, 49-year-old David Vandebogart, was arrested late Monday night on unrelated charges.

But, they said they are questioning him in the McCullough death investigation.

"He is a person of interest in the case," said Sheriff Tate.

The Sheriff said the victims body was badly decomposed and they are waiting on lab results from the medical examiners office.

"These kind of cases just take time. I mean ya know, it's a slow go, it's an ongoing investigation and it will be ongoing for days to come," said Sheriff Tate.

Authorities encourage anyone with information in the case call the Holmes County Sheriffs Office at (850)547-3681.
