Holmes County, Fla. - The Holmes County Sheriff's Office has identified a person of interest in connection to the death of 49-year-old Caryville resident Bruce Edward McCullough, officials wrote in a news release.
David John Vandebogart, 53, of Caryville, is currently in custody at the Holmes County Jail on other charges of obstruction of justice by intimidating a witness, aggravated battery, and felony battery.
McCullough's body was founded by Monday in the area of his home near Bear Hewitt Landing.
McCullough's family reporting him missing Wednesday, October 4.
HCSO, had previously searched the area until Hurricane Nate stalled the efforts.
"We are continuing to treat the death as a homicide until the autopsy can be conducted on Wednesday morning and a cause of death can be provided," officials wrote. "More charges could be forthcoming pending the result of examination of evidence collected, as well as the results of autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office."
We are continuing to examine the evidence in the case and encourage anyone with any information related to this investigation to contact the sheriff's office. Vandebogart's bond has been set at $110,000.
