BAY COUNTY, Fla. - Major hurricanes devastated parts of the country over the past couple months. Air travel was impacted as well. Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport canceled a total of 72 flights due to the storms.
Hurricane Harvey caused 44 cancelations because Houston is a major connection out of
ECP. Hurricane Irma caused 28 cancelations.
Airport Director Parker McClellan said they were well prepared.
"When you see that storm out in the middle of the Atlantic, the airport is already thinking about it and what could be the impact. As we see with Lee for example, it turned off...so once we see a turn like that we tend to not pay as much attention but we never put our guard down," said McClellan.
He said the airport tried to send out as much information through email and their website to keep passengers in the loop about cancellations but the airline will have the most up to date status regarding specific flights.
