LYNN HAVEN, Fla. - Haney Technical Center celebrates 'Career and Technical Education Month' (CTE Month), while also taking the time to highlight one of the school's star students.
On Tuesday, Zacchae'us Long, 22, completed the Welding Technology Advanced program. It's the highest level course in welding at Haney.
He dropped out of school in 7th grade, and in 2015, Long earned his GED within a year.
He later graduated from the Welding Technology Program last March, and enrolled in the advanced program late last year.
Long says his desire to be a blacksmith since he was a kid had sparked his interest in welding.
"It's one of the hardest materials, which is metal, in the world - and you just make you own thing from it. It's just pretty much art and so if you look at it that way, and you kind of have that kind of mindset such as me, I mean if you look at it that way it's I guess exhilarating," said Long.
Long says so far he has four job opportunities lined up.
Later this month recruiters will scout for students at Haney.
