Every year, the State of Florida and Gulf Power recognize line workers for their efforts to keep Florida's energy flowing.

Gulf Power paid tribute to almost 200 employees Friday morning. The employees work on transmission and distribution lines servicing more than 450,000 people between Pensacola and Panama City.

Mike Wilkes, a line worker, said although he works in hazardous conditions, he loves his job.

"We do really appreciate it, but there's been a ton of men over the years that have lost their lives doing line work," said Wilkes. "So for them to finally recognize the State of Florida the United States to finally recognize we do really appreciate it."

Last year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics named line work as one of the most dangerous jobs in the country.
