FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. - The Franklin County Tax Collector is facing serious charges after allegedly engaging in sexual activity with a 17-year old male, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators said they received a tip Friday that James A. Harris Jr. had some type of sexual activity with a teenager. During a criminal investigation at a home in Eastpoint that night, Sheriff A.J. Smith said Harris confessed to the sexual activity.
Harris was arrested Friday night and charged with unlawful sexual activity with a minor 16-17 years of age, a second degree felony.
He was released Saturday morning from the Franklin County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Harris has served as the tax collector for about 25 years.
