Former Beach Officer Claims Self Defense

Panama City Beach, Fla. - A Panama City Beach Police Officer is now arguing that he should be exempt from prosecution because he was acting in self defense. According to incident reports, Sgt. John Wray and Panama City Beach Police Corporal Scott Womack got into an argument with another individual outside of Rockit Lanes back in March.

Womack and Wray have both resigned from their agencies during the investigation. Womack has been criminally charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and battery for allegedly striking the victim and placing a gun to his head and threatening to kill him. Wray does not face criminal charges.

In a new motion, Womack's attorney says his client was acting in self defense and requests a hearing on the matter. If the court finds that Womack acted in self defense the charges will be dropped.
