Florida Legislature Passes Budget

BAY COUNTY, Fl - Florida lawmakers are finished with their proposed $82.4 billion dollar budget for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. The session ended around 8:30pm, central time, Monday night. District Two Senator George Gainer says Bay County will see significant projects. Freshman Senator George Gainer of Panama City told News13 "it was a real good session, and he is proud of the budget". Gainer said more than nine million dollars will go toward Eastern Shipbuilding, one million for the Forensic Diving program at Gulf Coast State College as well as five million toward a STEM building at Gulf Coast. The budget will not include economic development incentive money sought for Enterprise Florida by Governor Rick Scott and will slash Visit Florida's tourism marketing funds. The budget now goes to Governor Scott, who has 72 hours to sign it. Governor Scott will be in Panama City on Tuesday to recognize a new Aerospace company, locating near Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. 170 people are expected be hired by the new manufacturing company.
