"FIRST" Meeting on Preventing Local Financial Crime

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. - The Bay County Sheriff's Office is working to prevent theft in our local businesses.

The partnership between the sheriff's office and Retailers and Financial Institutions in Bay County.
is called "FIRST".

"FIRST" stands for financial institutions and retailers stopping theft.

Their quarterly meeting was held this morning. Organizers and several other members of local law enforcement agencies met to discuss crime prevention techniques, recent trends they see in our area, and statistics of scams in 2017.

Officials at the sheriff's office says they've seen the frequency of financial crimes decrease since the group began meeting about eight years ago.

"We work with the other law enforcement agencies in the county to work more effectively to prevent crime and solve crime as well," Craig Romans with the BCSO Financial Crimes Unit, said.

Romans said when they aren't meeting quarterly, those involved are still sharing their experiences with financial crime on a daily basis over Facebook and e-mail.
