PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A Gulf County man is dead after being hit by a Panama City Police car.
The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating.
The accident happened Thursday morning on 11th Street and Grace Avenue in Downtown Panama City.
Troopers have identified the victim as 53-year-old Craig Finch from Wewahitchka.
The Panama City Police officer was identified as 36-year-old Mark Bohrer.
The road between Harrison and Grace Avenues on 11th Street was gridlocked for nearly six hours.
"The Panama City Police Department, called and asked - requested the Florida Highway Patrol respond to an investigative patrol car crash," FHP Sgt. Brian Speigner.
According to an FHP incident report, Bohrer's patrol car was stopped in the southbound lane of Grace Avenue and 11th Street.
"The deputy was on patrol when his cruiser struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway," said Speigner.
Finch was walking North on Grace Avenue.
Bohrer was making a left turn onto 11th Street at the same time Finch was getting ready to cross the street.
That's when authorities say Finch fell and was struck.
"The person who was struck here, was transported from the scene to Bay Medical where he expired due to his injuries," said Speigner.
Speigner said investigators have also interviewed a witness to the accident.
"We were notified of one witness, one eye-witness. I personally have not spoken to them, but there was an independent witness to the crash," said Speigner.
FHP troopers said they will also review video from the police cruiser and surrounding businesses.
Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
A Wewahitchka man trying to cross the street at the intersection of Grace Avenue and 11th Street fell over in front of a Panama City Police officer's cruiser and was run over and killed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers wrote in a news release that Mark Bohrer, 36, of Panama City, was attempting to make a left turn on 11th Street as 53-year-old Craig Finch was crossing the street.
Finch fell over and the patrol car "traveled over the pedestrian."
Finch was rushed to Bay Medical Sacred Heart but died from his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and charges in the case are pending, troopers wrote.
