PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WMBB) - A country music legend comes to Panama City Beach to play in honor of a fallen Navy SEAL. Charlie Daniels visited Firefly to honor the life and legacy of Danny Dietz, who was killed in Afghanistan. Dietz's family has vacationed here in the past and Dietz underwent some of his military training in this area. The family has set up a scholarship fund in his name for students who might not otherwise be able to afford college.
News 13 talked with Dietz' sister about honoring him and we also spoke to Charlie Daniels about the importance of honoring the United States military. Daniels says, "we can never do enough for them. We owe them an unpayable debt of gratitude. They put their lives on the line for us everyday. There's still people doing that right now. There's never a minute or a second that goes by in the United States that there isn't a bunch of people somewhere in the world that we might not even know about that are laying their lives on the line for us here."
Talking about her brother, Danny Dietz, Tiffany Bitz told us,"almost twelve years after losing him people continue to remember to the sacrifice he made and honor his memory and for me that's just incredible."
Danny Dietz's heroic story is captured in the film 'Lone Survivor.' If you are interested in donating to the scholarship fund...navysealdannydietz.com.
The show will be at the AMIkids building on 200 East Beach Drive.
