Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. - Walton County Commissioners, community leaders and residents were all in attendance today, at the Pilcher Park under the U.S. 331 bridge.
It was a special memorial and unveiling to honor the local family this morning, a crowd of friends and family gathered to honor the late Judge Clyde B. Wells. The Walton County and Florida Department of Transportation dedicated the 331 bridge in his honor.
In 1991, the bridge was originally named the Clyde B. Wells bridge by the Florida Legislature.
Twenty six years later, Walton County now has a new bridge and is has renamed and rededicated it in his honor.
"He would be laughing his head off. He would think it is funny, you know. He was a simple man. He loved his family, as I said and he loved the people of Walton County. He had a keen sense of humor," said Sara Comander, Walton County Commissioner.
Drivers heading southbound over the U.S. 331 bridge can now see the new sign in his honor. The northbound side will be installed by the end of the week.
