PANAMA CITY, Fla. - A former Bay Haven Charter Academy administrator has a new job in Panama City after his very public exit from the school he founded in March.
Dr. Tim Kitts is the new principal of Rising Leaders Academy. Kitts said he consulted for several charter schools and when the current principal decided to leave she asked him to take over.
Rising Leaders is a tuition-free charter school with about 200 students in kindergarten through seventh grade. Reached by phone Wednesday Kitts said the school is a "low key" environment.
"There are no plans to grow into a mega-charter," Kitts said."The main concentration is focused 100 percent on the academic performance of those students."
The high performing school is ranked among the top one percent in Florida.
Last year, Kitts resigned as the Chief Education Officer at Bay Haven, a school he founded in 2001, as part of an agreement with two North Bay Haven administrators who had filed complaints against him.
Kitts declined to talk about his exit saying he loved working at both Bay Haven and Rutherford High School before that but is focused on the future.
