Hundreds of Bay County fathers went back to school Wednesday morning as part of "Dads Take Your Child to School Day."

The Florida Department of Transportation started the initiative last year to encourage fathers and male caregivers to participate in their child's education.

At Cherry Street Elementary School, administrators hosted more than two hundred people for coffee and donuts before class started. They also invited law enforcement and military members to serve as positive mentors for students.

"As a father myself, you know I try and spend as much time with my little girl in school. It just means so much to have that positive male influence and have it present at all times as well," MSGT Randy Aiken from Tyndall Air Force Base said.

Multiple Bay District Schools also participated in the state-wide event with a free breakfast for dads.
