It's the end of an era in Bay County. Sheriff Frank McKeithen left his office today for the last time as he retires early.
Around 3:00 Friday afternoon Sheriff McKeithen was surprised by his employees and friends as he left the building.
Jay Granberg Media was there to capture the emotional send off.
Sheriff McKeithen was the Gulf County Sheriff for eight years before being appointed as sheriff in Bay County in 2003. He announced his decision not to seek reelection in April.
He threw his support behind Major Tommy Ford, who won the seat unopposed in June. Now with Sheriff McKeithen retiring early, Ford was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to begin the job officially on Monday.
