Bay County Employee Health Insurance Increase

BAY COUNTY, Fla. - Bay County employees who receive health benefits from Florida Blue through the County will see an increase on their bill for what they pay for coverage.

As a part of the affordable care act (ACA) the county is responsible to pay a mandatory fee of 3.4 percent of their coverage.

Bob Majka, the Bay County County Manager explained that the rates for health insurance are staying the same, but this mandatory fee will increase what employees currently pay for benefits.

"Our total premium all offices involved is a little over 8,000,000 dollars a year so we're looking at roughly 240,000+ dollars that are going to go for nothing but paying that fee for folks to have access to healthcare," Majka said.

The county will also begin "Know Your Benefits" seminars on Sept. 27, so employees can learn how to effectively take advantage of their benefits.
