DESTIN, Fla. - A Destin park was shut down for several hours Saturday as law enforcement investigated a suspicious item.
Okaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies said two people were walking a dog at Mattie Kelly ark and Nature Walk on Beach Drive around 9:00 a.m. when they found a small suspicious item.
First responders closed off the boardwalk and parking lot near Joe's Bayou and looked for additional evidence until the Bay County Sheriff's Bomb Squad arrived.
Officials determined the item to be safe and reopened the park around 2:00 p.m.
No one was injured.
Investigators are still looking into the item to determine who placed it at the park and whether it was in fact a destructive device.
