The oyster industry in Apalachicola has seen better days, as the bay continues to recover. In August, the News Service of Florida reported that 100 seafood workers have left the area to look for work elsewhere. In 2013, the bay was declared a Federal Fishery Disaster. Dist. Two Representative Gwen Graham says she is spearheading a bipartisan effort to restore the bay. "Florida's the third largest state, and we should be given the respect we deserve when there is something so important to Northwest florida, Graham said, so we are working together, we are getting alot of support from the alabama delegation as well." Graham also says she has friends in the Georgia delegation who are also going to help working to make sure this issue is seen as important. The Florida delegation is asking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to put more water in the Apalachicola Bay.
