LYNN HAVEN, Fla. - On Mother's Day, children typically buy their moms gifts and cards, but a Lynn Haven mom may be giving her son a gift that money cannot buy.
Seven-year-old J.D. Stark was born with one kidney and a club foot.
J.D.'s parents Jason and Angela said doctors initially told them his conditions were common, but he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, stage two, in October 2016. As of today, he is at stage four failure.
J.D. will now need a kidney transplant.
Angela is hoping she'll be the perfect match, although the family is still waiting for test results.
"We went last Monday and Tuesday to Orlando for part of mine, and I still have to go for another appointment, but hopefully we'll find out next week as far as the final results from our Orlando visit and the testing. So, so far, so good," Angela said.
If Angela is a match, she and J.D. will undergo the transplant surgeries in Orlando. They will have to stay in Central Florida for several months which could cost as much as $40,000 or more.
Their family and friends are working to raise money to pay for their medical bills through the Children's Organ Transplant Association. To help the family out, click here.
