PANAMA CITY, Fla. - Panama City Police have arrested a 17-year-old suspect in the Friday night murder of a Panama City man.
Gerald Deron Smith, 25, was talking with some girls in the courtyard of the Macedonia Garden Apartments when the alleged shooter, Adeviante Demari Russ, 17, of Lynn Haven, walked up and got into an argument with the group. Investigators said Russ then shot Smith who later died from his injuries, police wrote in a news release.
Police also arrested Jarquez Rasheen Gordon, 19, during the investigator on an unrelated weapons charge.
On Monday an arrest warrant was obtained and Russ turned himself into the Panama City Police Department.
"We want to thank the U.S. Marshall’s Task Force with helping to locate Russ’ family members and encouraging Russ to turn himself in," officials wrote.
Russ is charged with second-degree murder.
